My Struggle with Speaking English

Introduction:

English, being the most spoken language in the world, is a vital skill to have. Unfortunately, it is a skill that I have never managed to acquire adequately. Although I attended English language classes in school and spent years studying the language on my own, I am still not confident in speaking it fluently. In this article, I will share with you my personal experience and journey in trying to improve my English speaking skills.

First Attempt:

My first attempt at improving my English speaking skills was in high school when I joined a language club. I thought it would be an exciting opportunity to meet new people and practice speaking the language in a supportive environment. However, it turned out to be a disaster. It was challenging to keep up with the native speakers, and I found myself getting nervous and tongue-tied. Furthermore, I often made grammatical errors which caused some people to laugh or correct me. It was not the supportive environment I had hoped for, and I soon stopped attending.

Second Attempt:

After high school, I decided to try again. I enrolled in an English course, which was taught by a native speaker. The classes were intense and focused heavily on conversation practice. While the teacher was patient with me, I still found it hard to speak fluently. I kept worrying about making mistakes and being judged by others. I also noticed that the other students seemed to be progressing faster than me. Eventually, I dropped out of the course, disheartened and frustrated.

Third Attempt:

I never gave up on improving my English speaking skills, though. I continued to watch English movies and TV shows and read books, hoping that I would eventually improve. But it seemed that the more I studied, the less confident I felt. I began to avoid situations that required me to speak English, and this had an adverse effect on my career prospects. I began to feel embarrassed and ashamed of my inability to communicate fluently in English, which only made matters worse.

Conclusion:

Learning a language is never easy, but it is not an impossible task. As I look back at my journey so far, I realise that my lack of progress was due to fear and lack of confidence. I was afraid to make mistakes and to be judged by others. I was also not confident in my ability to communicate effectively. These are challenges that many people encounter when learning a new language. My next step is to overcome these fears by speaking English as much as possible. I know it will be challenging, but I am determined to become fluent in English, no matter how long it takes.

Learning a language is a challenging journey that takes perseverance and determination. It is essential not to give up, even when you encounter setbacks and difficulties along the way. With dedication and patience, it is possible to improve your English speaking skills, just like any other skill. So, if you are struggling with English, do not worry; you are not alone. Just keep practicing and never give up.
